Self-Paced PDF + Quiz

Course Description

Covers the design, material selection, fabrication, and inspection of process piping in chemical plants, refineries, and manufacturing facilities under ASME B31.3. Mechanical engineers will calculate minimum wall thickness for internal pressure, determine thermal expansion flexibility and pipe support spacing, understand ASME B16.5 flange pressure-temperature ratings, and select proper isolation and control valves.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this continuing education course, the licensee will be able to:

  • Determine required pipe schedule and minimum wall thickness using ASME B31.3 hoop stress equations
  • Evaluate pipe thermal expansion, anchor loads, and layout configurations for expansion loops
  • Select flange ratings (Class 150 to 2500) based on ASME B16.5 material groups and operating temperatures
  • Specify appropriate valves (gate, globe, ball, butterfly) for isolation, throttling, and check duties
