Industrial Wastewater Treatment Technologies & NPDES Permitting Compliance

Course Description

Provides environmental and civil engineers with comprehensive guidance on designing industrial wastewater treatment systems and securing National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permits. Covers coagulation, flocculation, dissolved air flotation (DAF), activated sludge kinetics, membrane bioreactors (MBR), heavy metals precipitation, and industrial pretreatment standards.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this continuing education course, the licensee will be able to:

• Size physical-chemical treatment units including clarifiers, neutralizers, and DAF units
• Calculate aeration basin volumes, hydraulic retention times (HRT), and sludge age for activated sludge systems
• Ensure compliance with EPA Categorical Pretreatment Standards and local Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTW) limits
• Prepare complete NPDES permit applications, monitoring plans, and toxicity identification evaluations
